Travel Tips
Carry important medical information with you.
This should contain any information you would want a doctor to have in case you
seek medical treatment at your travel destination. You may want to include your
medical conditions, current medications, medication allergies, and the names and
phone numbers of your physicians. Since the names of your medications may
have different proprietary names in different countries, it is a good idea to bring
the medication bottles or labels with you. The generic or chemical names of the
medications are usually universal.
Travel Immunizations
Ask your doctor if you will need immunizations or
medications prior to travel. Find out as early as possible since some vaccinations
need to be given in series over a 6 month period. The Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention offer a website for the latest travel health information. www.cdc.

TRIP.
Hand Washing
The best way to prevent illness during travel is with frequent
hand washing. Especially during peak travel times, it is very difficult to avoid
contact with people who may be sick. You can decrease your chances of getting ill
by washing your hands with soap and water before meals, after going to the
bathroom, after being on public transportation, and after being in a crowded area.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth because bacteria are often
transmitted in this manner. It is also a good idea to carry a bottle of antibacterial,
alcohol-based hand sanitizer in case you do not have access to a clean water
source.
